These terms explain how Cheeky's Electrical quotes, carries out and charges for electrical repairs, switchboards, rewiring, lighting, EV chargers, solar, inspections and commercial electrical work across Christchurch and Canterbury.
1. About these terms
These terms apply when Cheeky's Electrical quotes for or carries out work for you. If your written quote says something different, the quote applies for that job.
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under New Zealand law.
2. Quotes
Every job starts with a free quote, with a fixed price agreed before we start. Quotes are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.
Your quote sets out the work, the materials and the price. Once you accept it, that is the fixed price for the work described, agreed before we start. Each quote states how long it remains valid.
3. Changes to the work
Sometimes we find something that could not be seen when we quoted, such as hidden damage. If that happens we stop, show you what we found and explain the options. We only do extra work once you have agreed the extra cost in writing.
4. Residential building work of $30,000 or more
If your job is residential building work costing $30,000 or more including GST, the Building Act 2004 requires a written contract, and we give you the prescribed checklist and disclosure information before the contract is signed. You can ask for these documents on any job.
5. Payment
How and when you pay is set out in your quote or invoice. For larger jobs, the quote may include progress payments, and the Construction Contracts Act 2002 applies to payment claims where relevant.
If an invoice is not paid by its due date, we will contact you first to sort it out.
6. Access and safety
Please give us safe access to your property, tell us about any hazards we should know about, and keep children and pets clear of the work area. We follow the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and keep the site safe and tidy.
7. Licensing and compliance
Prescribed electrical work is carried out or supervised by licensed electrical workers registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board, as the Electricity Act 1992 requires.
When the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 require it, you receive a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for the work, and an Electrical Safety Certificate where one applies. Some work also needs an inspection by an independent electrical inspector, and we arrange this when it is required.
8. Energy savings, charging and solar performance
Figures for energy savings, EV charging speeds and solar generation come from manufacturers and independent sources. Real results depend on your supply, your home, the weather and how you use the system, so they are a guide, not a promise.
9. Materials and manufacturer warranties
Materials and equipment come with the manufacturer's own warranty. The terms are set by the manufacturer and can depend on the product, where it is installed and how it is maintained. We pass on the warranty information for your job.
10. Your rights under New Zealand law
If you are a consumer, you have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986, including that our work is carried out with reasonable care and skill and is fit for purpose. Nothing in these terms takes those rights away.
For residential building work, the implied warranties in the Building Act 2004 also apply, and for 12 months after the work is completed you can ask us to fix defects you notify in writing.
11. Customers in trade
If you acquire our services for business purposes, we may agree in writing that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, where the law allows this.
12. Cancelling or rescheduling
If you need to cancel or move a booking, please let us know as early as you can. If materials have already been ordered for your job, we will talk with you about any costs before anything is charged.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. This does not limit your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
14. Complaints and disputes
If something is not right, please tell us through the contact page or by phone and we will work with you to fix it. If we cannot agree, you can take the matter to the Disputes Tribunal or another dispute resolution service.
15. Privacy
How we handle your personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this website when you accept a quote is the one that applies to your job.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
