No business can close for a week while the electrician finishes. We work with Christchurch offices, shops, cafes, clinics, schools and light industrial sites on fit-outs, maintenance, lighting upgrades and repairs, from rebuilt premises in the central city to workshops in Hornby, Sydenham and Woolston and new commercial space in Rolleston. Work is scheduled early, late or at weekends so your doors stay open.
Commercial jobs also carry more paperwork than houses. Building warrants of fitness, emergency lighting records, appliance testing and certificates for every alteration land on the owner or tenant. We keep that side in order, and can combine it with workplace test and tag on the same visit.
Pricing: a free quote and a fixed price agreed before we start. You get a written, itemised quote, and small jobs can be quoted from photos.

Fit-outs and alterations
Whether you are moving into a new tenancy or reworking the one you have, we plan power, data and lighting around how the space will be used: desks and meeting rooms, staff kitchens, retail counters and display lighting, or workshop machines on three-phase supply.
We work alongside your builder, shopfitter or project manager, price from drawings and raise clashes early. Every new circuit and alteration is certified with a Certificate of Compliance, and connections are covered by an Electrical Safety Certificate, so your landlord and insurer have the records they ask for.
- Office and retail fit-outs
- Staff kitchens and break rooms
- Three-phase circuits for machinery and commercial equipment
- Distribution board additions and upgrades
- Make-good work at lease end
New connections and extra capacity
Selwyn was the fastest-growing district in the country at the 2023 Census, and across the region every new or upgraded supply goes through the lines company. Across Christchurch city and Selwyn that is Orion; north of the Waimakariri River, around Rangiora and Kaiapoi, it is MainPower. For a new Orion connection, Orion confirms capacity in writing, the electrician provides a Certificate of Compliance, and an Orion authorised livening agent connects the site.
We size the supply for what you need now and what you plan to add, such as EV chargers, a commercial kitchen or a heat pump system, and handle the paperwork with the lines company and your retailer so the connection date is not held up.
How It Works
Emergency lighting and the building warrant of fitness
Under the Building Act, most buildings other than single houses that contain specified systems need a compliance schedule and an annual building warrant of fitness. Emergency lighting is one of those systems, listed as SS4. The compliance schedule says how it is inspected, tested and maintained, how often and by whom, and some of that must be signed off by an independent qualified person (IQP). In Christchurch, Selwyn and Waimakariri, your district or city council holds the compliance schedule.
We install and repair emergency and exit lighting, run the routine tests the schedule calls for, and replace failed batteries and fittings. Where an IQP inspection is required, we work with the IQP your building already uses.
LED upgrades and winter running costs
Lighting is often one of the biggest steady loads in an office or shop. Gen Less notes that LEDs last around 25,000 to 30,000 hours, against 1,000 to 2,000 for incandescent bulbs, which cuts both power use and the cost of changing tubes up ladders. EECA's efficiency checklists also recommend occupancy sensors so lights switch off in empty rooms.
Christchurch businesses also feel the winter peak. Orion's network rush hours are very cold winter mornings and evenings, which is when shops and offices have the lights on hardest. We replace fluorescent fittings and high bays with LED, add sensors and daylight dimming where they pay back, and stage the work floor by floor. Our LED lighting page covers the residential side.
Planned maintenance and fault response
A maintenance schedule catches problems before they stop trading: RCDs that no longer trip, loose terminations in a board running warm, stairwell lights out. We visit on an agreed cycle, test protection devices, check boards and keep a log for each site.
When something fails, the team that already knows your building comes out. For outages, burning smells or anything that looks unsafe, call our emergency electrician line straight away and isolate the area if it is safe to do so. For staff and fleet charging, see EV charger installation; several chargers on one site usually need load management.
- Scheduled board and RCD checks
- Emergency and exit lighting tests
- Fault finding and repairs
- A maintenance log for each site
Health and safety on your site
Every business has duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act, and so do we as contractors on your premises. We complete your site induction, follow your sign-in and permit processes, and isolate and lock out circuits before working on them.
WorkSafe's Energy Safety team regulates electrical work and can audit installers. Our electricians are registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board and hold current practising licences, which you are welcome to check before we start.
