Under regulation 26 of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, equipment used by employees or contractors is deemed electrically safe if it carries a current tag issued to AS/NZS 3760. A clear register also answers questions from landlords, head contractors and insurers. Ours lists each item, where it lives, the result and the retest date.
Showgrounds Events and High Street Trade: Rangiora Test and Tag
Rangiora is the seat and largest town of the Waimakariri District, about 29 kilometres north of Christchurch, and its population grew by around a quarter between the 2013 and 2023 censuses. High Street carries most of the town's retail and hospitality, and its shops range from older buildings to new fit-outs. Older shopfronts can be short of wall outlets, which is where power boards and adaptors pile up, so those get a careful look.
The Rangiora Showgrounds host events that rely on temporary power: food stalls, exhibitor stands, marquee lighting, PA systems and long leads run across grass. Equipment used outdoors at events is exposed to damp ground, foot traffic and vehicles, and every outlet supplying it should be RCD protected. Event organisers can ask stallholders for current tags, and gear that has sat in storage since the last event is best tested before it goes out again.
Rangiora's weather runs to both extremes. July averages a low of 0.6 °C, yet the town also holds New Zealand's highest official temperature, 42.4 °C, recorded in February 1973. Heaters dominate winter testing, but desk and pedestal fans come out in a hot summer and are often stored with frayed cords. Rangiora is on the MainPower network rather than Orion, which makes no difference to test and tag itself, since AS/NZS 3760 applies the same way across the country.
Local tip: Rangiora event organisers can ask stallholders to bring tested leads and set a cut-off date for tags before show day.

Test and Tag Rangiora FAQs
Should stallholders at a Rangiora Showgrounds event have tagged equipment?
It is good practice. Leads and appliances used outdoors at events face damp ground and heavy foot traffic, so organisers often ask for current tags and RCD protection on every outlet.
How often does equipment in Rangiora need testing?
It depends on the type of equipment and how it is used. Site and workshop gear needs testing more often than office equipment, and we set the intervals with you.
What happens when an item fails?
It is taken out of use, labelled as failed and listed in your register. We can repair or replace plugs and leads, or you can replace the item yourself.
